Harley G. Philo is Kyle's maternal great-great-grandfather and the father of Elton Laverne "Verne" Philo. He is named in Elton's 2015 obituary as one of the "late" parents. He lived in Union Township, Isabella County, Michigan, where Elton was born. A shared stone at Riverside Cemetery, Mount Pleasant, gives the years 1897–1989.
